Goal Setting - Worth the investment?
As this year slowly draws to a close, we can’t deny that this is the perfect time to start setting your goals for the new year. However, as many of us have probably come to notice, goal setting is a lot easier in theory than it is in practice. Goal setting can seem like quite a trying task but there is a way to set goals effectively! And thankfully, I’ve discovered exactly how to do it!
So, sit tight, bookmark this blog and lets explore goal setting before we all welcome in the new year!
The Secret to Goal Setting
When it comes to the art of perfecting goal setting, there are a few things you need to keep in mind! These rules will not only make you accountable but keep you active in the pursuit of your goals!
We all want to be winners and that is possible if you follow these steps that will help you make sure you achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself and your business.
1. Make it SMARTER
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Achievable
R - Relevant
T – Time-bound
E - Evaluative
R - Revisable
2. Write it down
Write your goals down, and don’t forget to be specific. Whilst jotting down these goals in great detail, be sure to place this list somewhere that is in plain sight, where you can view it at all times.
Some people prefer to have them printed and stuck on the wall, while others prefer to keep them in a notebook, some prefer to keep them on their bathroom mirror. The important part is to do what works for you! Constantly seeing your goals around you will keep you on track and accountable … Always make your goals unavoidable!
3. Break it down
Don’t just stop at writing down the end goal. You need to look at the journey towards achieving that goal too! Once you have written down a specific goal, outlined each and every step you will take towards achieving, said goal becomes a lot easier to achieve. Make sure to also include a due date so that you are less likely to procrastinate now that you have a deadline!
Breaking down your goals makes the goal so much more attainable and manageable. Look at it in parts as opposed to the bigger picture so that you don’t feel overwhelmed.
4. Hold yourself Accountable
This point can be slightly more difficult, but it truly is the key to achieving your goal – you HAVE to stay accountable at all times! Make sure to not only add goal setting to your to-do list for the year but make achieving a part of the plan too. The only way to do that is by doing daily check-ins!
Assess where you are in your goal journey to ensure that you are hitting each step. It will also help if you have an accountability partner, someone you share your goals/plans with who can check in with you as well.
5. Reward Yourself
It is important that we express love and gratitude towards ourselves! We so often give affirmations to others, but don’t forget about yourself too! A little pat on the back will keep you motivated and pumped up to start ticking off as many of those goals as possible!
Every little step you take is getting you closer to achieving your goals, so be sure to reward yourself, even if it is just a little reward. Positive reinforcement will help motivate you to keep going!
6. Develop Systems and Habits
Remember that goal setting isn’t just a once-off thing! We are trying to make this sustainable and a part of our everyday lives. In order for that to happen, we have to create a number of systems and habits that are deeply integrated into our lives. This way, goal setting is just the norm and goal achieving is the expected outcome!
And so, remember that while you go through your steps, try developing systems to help you achieve your goals easier next time. Reflect and readjust each time!
